Ange Postecoglou gives glowing verdict of Tottenham Hotspur substitutes after Bournemouth victory
Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has given a glowing verdict on the impact of the substitutes in the win over Bournemouth.
Andoni Iraola’s team welcomed the North London side on Saturday (26 August) in the Premier League. Spurs were on top of the Vitality Stadium side for most of the game and secured the three points with a 2-0 victory.
Speaking after the match via football.london, Postecoglou reserved special praise for his substitutes. The Australian manager gave a shout-out to all the four changes he made.
“I thought it was that time of the game when we needed steady heads. I thought they (Hojbjerg and Perisic) did really well. That gave us a platform to get our second goal. We controlled the game really well after that. I thoughr both of them, Gio, Skipp and Ben when he came on.”
James Maddison opened the scoring for Tottenham in the 17th minute. Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr linked up to set up the English national. The trio have performed well so far under Postecoglou.
Spurs went into the break with a small lead. The gaffer had the team playing on the front foot immediately at the start of the second half. Then, at the hour mark, the gaffer made a couple of changes.
Ivan Perisic and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg came on for Richarlison and Sarr, respectively. Credit needs to go to the Australian manager, as we doubled our lead a few minutes after the substitutions.
The former Everton star had another underwhelming outing. Postecoglou seemingly realised that and shifted Son Heung-min to the number nine position. Dejan Kulusevski then pounced on a cross from Destiny Udogie in the 63rd minute to score our second goal.
In the 73rd minute, Giovani Lo Celso and Oliver Skipp also made their way onto the pitch. The gaffer ensured that the engine room remained solid and energetic in the harsh climatic conditions. In the 82nd minute, Ben Davies also got a chance to feature.
