Tottenham Hotspur and AC Milan in the race for Porto’s Mehdi Taremi

Mehdi Taremi has apparently garnered attention from both AC Milan and Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

The Lilywhites have, obviously, lost Harry Kane to Bayern Munich this summer and have the task of replacing the greatest player in their history. One way to go about it in a simple manner will be to sign a new No. 9.

Spurs are pushing to sign Johan Bakayoko from PSV Eindhoven and Brennan Johnson from Nottingham Forest before the end of the window. Those two are very young wingers — players for the future.

Taremi, 31, is an experienced no-nonsense goal-getter. According to journalists Rudy Galetti and Sebastiao Sousa Pinto, AC Milan and Spurs have shown the most interest in the Iran international.

Go for it

He says €30million has been the striker’s price-tag placed by Porto but given he is in the final year of his contract, a deal could materialise in the region of €25million. That sounds like a great deal.

He isn’t the youngest and nor is he a proven product in the Premier League or another league of comparable stature in terms of quality and competitiveness. He has 80 goals and 49 assists in 150 games during his three years at Porto.

This shows he knows where the net is, and that he can create chances for his teammates too. Moreover, that many games over just three years prove he is a very fit guy as well.

He may not be a long-term acquisition but we can get a couple of years of good service out of him. Milan’s interest could, of course, drive up the price tag as they look for a new No. 9. But hopefully, Taremi is sold on the idea of filling the shoes of one of English football’s greatest-ever players.
