Tottenham face financial hurdle in their pursuit of Barcelona defensive star

Tottenham want to sign Barcelona star Clement Lenglet but wages remain a stumbling block

According to Spanish publication SPORT, Tottenham Hotspur want to sign Barcelona centre-back Clement Lenglet but the wages that he is not willing to budge on is proving to be a stumbling block.

The Barcelona centre-back, who spent the last campaign on loan at the North London club, has become a subject of intense speculation as Spurs contemplate securing his services on a more permanent basis.

Last season saw Lenglet don the white and blue of Tottenham, showcasing his prowess in a different league and under a different banner. Whispers about a potential long-term stay at the club gained momentum as the loan spell progressed, but it did not translate into reality.

The conclusion of the loan naturally saw Clement Lenglet returning to the folds of his parent club, Barcelona. Yet, intriguingly, the ties between the player and Tottenham did not seem to have fully loosened.

However, in the realm of transfers, nothing is as straightforward as it appears on the surface. While Tottenham’s appetite for Lenglet’s services seems undiminished, the path to this union is beset by a formidable stumbling block in the form of wages.

It’s evident that Barcelona, too, are keen on facilitating Lenglet’s shift to Tottenham. A move that might usher in a fresh chapter for the player while also potentially freeing up resources for Barcelona to reshuffle their own defensive deck.

Lenglet, known for his versatility, could serve as a valuable asset to Tottenham’s defensive department. His proficiency in slotting in both as the left-sided central defender and as a left-back renders him an enticing prospect for a team seeking depth and adaptability.

Will Tottenham overcome the formidable hurdle of wages and secure the services of Clement Lenglet? Can the Frenchman find common ground with his parent club to facilitate a move that appears to be in the best interest of all parties?
