Alasdair Gold expects Tottenham to hand new contract to Son Heung-min shortly

Tottenham Hotspur aficionado Alasdair Gold, renowned for his insightful perspectives on all things Spurs, has set the Lilywhite faithful abuzz with his recent proclamation: Heung-min Son is likely to be handed a fresh contract in the near future.

Son, whose performances last season failed to match his own lofty standards, endured a challenging campaign. With 14 goals in 47 appearances, he faced the inevitable trials and tribulations of a footballer’s journey, with injuries and setbacks testing his resilience.

However, this season paints an entirely different picture. Under the stewardship of manager Ange, the talismanic forward has embraced new responsibilities with open arms. The goals are back.

With the transfer saga of Harry Kane, the beloved hometown hero, reaching its dramatic conclusion as he joined Bayern Munich, a void emerged in Tottenham’s leadership. Ange’s astute decision was to pass the captain’s armband to none other than Heung-min Son.

The game against Burnley saw Son donning the captain’s armband not for the first time. However, this wasn’t just any game for him; it was a momentous occasion, a chance to prove his mettle as a leader and scorer-in-chief.

And boy, did he seize the moment in style. His scintillating hat trick illuminated Turf Moor as Tottenham romped to a resounding 5-2 victory, announcing their intent for the season with authority.

Alasdair Gold, with his finger firmly on the pulse of Tottenham Hotspur, believes that the club’s decision-makers are poised to recognize Son’s importance and dedication. Here is what he had to say

“I would be stunned if we don’t see a new contract offered to Son [Heung-min], I would say probably quite shortly. He’s only got a couple of years left, he is like I say a [CAA] Base player as well so they’ll be looking after him. And he’s the captain of the club, I think that would be a great move and yes he’s in his thirties but I would say another year or two on the end of that, why not?”

The question of age inevitably surfaces when discussing contract extensions for players in their thirties. Gold, however, dispels any doubts, suggesting that a one- or two-year extension aligns perfectly with Son’s current form and his indispensable role within the team.
