Arsenal cult hero Bacary Sagna mocks Tottenham Hotspur’s title credentials
Former Arsenal right-back Bacary Sagna doesn’t believe Tottenham Hotspur have what it takes to win the Premier League title this season.
Spurs have been brilliant so far this season, being unbeaten in their opening eight league games. We have 20 points on the board before the October international break and alongside Arsenal, are the only unbeaten team in the PL.
The most recent result was a 1-0 away win against Luton Town. Our goal came after we went a man down following Yves Bissouma’s sending-off in the first half.
There are still 30 games to go, and Sagna believes Arsenal and Manchester City will compete for the title for the second season running. Spurs, he thinks, will collapse.
Sagna makes huge claim
The Frenchman said, via Paddy Power (h/t Metro):
“The title race will be between Arsenal and Manchester City, Spurs will collapse, as usual. And that’s not just me speaking as an Arsenal fan. I don’t see them being consistent enough all season. Apart from Heung-Min Son, I don’t see anyone in that team that can lead the team or play a vital role in Spurs’ title race.
Sagna, who never won the league title during his seven years at Arsenal and three years at Manchester City, added:
“I have respect for the players, and they play good football under a good coach, but the season is very long, and I don’t see them competing on a long-term basis. They started well, and they can qualify for the Champions League, but I don’t see them competing for the title.”
He can’t be more wrong. James Maddison is arguably in contention to be Premier League’s Player of the Season with his electric start to the campaign. The English playmaker has helped Spurs create chances and score goals in Harry Kane’s absence.
Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven are also doing their bit while Son Heung-min seems like the perfect choice to be the club’s captain, given his experience, form, and ability. It is still a long season.

Sure, Tottenham would have been better placed had they signed a new world-class No. 6 but Yves Bissouma’s revival has been immense under Ange Postecoglou. If we keep this squad fit for the majority of the season, we could be serious contenders.
Arsenal are level on points with Spurs but trail on goals scored, while Manchester City are two points behind us as of now.
