Ange Postecoglou praises Tottenham ‘leaders’ Son Heung-min and James Maddison after Fulham win

Son Heung-min and James Maddison were at their scintillating best in Tottenham Hotspur’s win over Fulham on Monday.

Spurs created opportunities in the first half an hour but were rather drab in the final third. It took a smart interception in midfield for the ball to be played to Richarlison in the 36th minute, who caught Fulham’s defence off guard with a simple pass to Son.

The South Korean forward made absolutely no mistake with a superb curling finish into the top corner from the edge of the box to give his team the lead. Within nine minutes of the second half, Son was at it again.

James Maddison believes Tottenham Hotspur signed him last summer for his creativity.
James Maddison is the vice-captain at Tottenham Hotspur.

This time, the scorer turned provider, playing an incisive pass to Maddison inside the box, who stroked the ball past Fulham’s goalkeeper. The two almost combined to perfection yet again in the 70th minute, when a James Maddison free kick was headed wide by the Tottenham skipper.

In form Spurs

Son was made Tottenham’s captain in August following Hugo Lloris’ demotion in the goalkeeper pecking order and Harry Kane’s transfer to Bayern Munich. Maddison was also named as a vice-captain.

Praising the two in-form Spurs stars, Ange Postecoglou said after the win against Fulham, via the National News:

“They[ Son and Maddison] are both quality players. They are both leaders at the club. They work hard for the team and it is a credit to them.”

Maddison now has three goals and five assists in 10 games across competitions this season. During the same time, Son has netted seven goals and provided an assist.

Son and Maddison have to be protected and kept fit for the entirety of the season if we dream of winning the English first division for the first time in 63 years. After Kane and Lloris’ removal from the starting XI, there were doubts if we had leaders in the squad.

Now we have two very good ones.
