Transfer News: Juventus want to negotiate with Tottenham for ‘priority’ target

Journalist says out-of-favour midfielder is 'almost certain' to leave Tottenham this summer

Juventus want to negotiate with Tottenham Hotspur for ‘priority’ target Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s future at Tottenham Hotspur is highly uncertain, that is no longer a secret.

He was apparently linked with a move to Atletico Madrid in the summer and after he stayed at Spurs, Ange Postecoglou didn’t give him many opportunities. Hojbjerg stepped in for the suspended Yves Bissouma in our 2-0 win against Fulham on Monday in the Premier League.

And he gave a really dogged, determined performance. But what happens to him once Bissouma is back, once Rodrigo Bentancur makes his return from injury?

Juventus seem to have an idea about the Denmark international’s situation at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. According to Italian outlet Calciomercato.com, he is their ‘priority’ target in midfield.

Hojbjerg off to Juventus?

Along with him, they are also keeping an eye on Manchester City’s Kalvin Phillips, another defensive midfielder struggling for playing time. The report adds that Spurs want €30million for Hojbjerg.

Juventus, however, want to negotiate that price to agree on more favourable terms. They are apparently open to signing him on an initial loan deal with provisions to make it permanent in the future. Intermediaries are apparently already at work.

The deal seems to make sense for everyone. As long as Juventus agree to pay what Tottenham want, not a lot of fans would oppose this. And that is because as much as some of us love the Denmark international, if Ange’s plans don’t include him, then there is no point in keeping him here.

He is a very, very good defensive midfielder who is just 28 years old, with a lot to still offer. Moreover, his contract still has just under two years left (Transfermarkt), so Spurs should not shy away from naming a fair price for him.
