Son Heung-min says Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou has made him feel like a ‘child’
Son Heung-min has waxed lyrical about Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou. The Greek-Australian manager arrived at Spurs in the summer from Celtic.
He wasn’t the biggest name in world football that Spurs fans wanted at the helm. After seeing Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte take to the dugout, Postecoglou’s name dwarfed in comparison based on reputation.
Things looked even tougher for him when he had to sell Harry Kane to Bayern Munich and didn’t sign a like-for-like replacement before the September 1 deadline. But the 58-year-old has proven to be a messiah.
He handed the captain’s armband to Son Heung-min, which was a masterstroke. The South Korean superstar has come to the fore and taken the goal-scoring burden upon himself.
Son and Ange are a great pairing
He is now what Harry Kane was for us in the last decade. Son was always important. But he was almost always playing second fiddle because of how good Kane was. He is the orchestrator now.
Son says that he thought he had learned everything by the age of 31, having played under managers like Mauricio Pochettino, Conte and Mou. But he says that Ange has taught him new things, making him feel like he was a ‘child’ on the field in terms of what he knows about the sport.
The former Bayer Leverkusen man told Men in Blazers (h/t the Independent):
“It’s crazy actually the way he (Ange) speaks… the way he talks is fantastic as a human being, as a coach, it’s nothing more than that. It’s amazing. I’m 31 years old, I learned many things before and I felt as a human I felt that I had enough but then since he arrived I feel like ‘wow! I’m still a child.”
Son is now set to return to Tottenham Hotspur and lead their charge for the Premier League title after another international break that featured a minor injury scare. With James Maddison out with injury, we need Son more than ever.

It is scary to think that even at 31, Son is still learning and could get even better. His fitness levels are elite and he is playing some of his best football right now. Ange has a big role to play in the latter, at least. Our next task is a league game against Aston Villa at home on Sunday, and we can expect Son to lead the team out on the field once again.
