Spurs eye a move for Juventus’ English winger Samuel Illing-Junior
Serie A giants Juventus are in dire need of midfield reinforcements over the January transfer window. The ban on Paul Pogba and Nicolo Fagioli seeing himself suspended for an extended period owing to betting rules leaves Massimiliano Allegri’s side very thin in the middle of the park.
Considering all of this, it is rather safe to assume that Juve will look to offload some players to generate a cash flow before spending in the upcoming transfer window. Tottenham appear to offer I Bianconeri a breath of fresh air by offering to buy 20-year-old winger Samuel Illing-Junior.
The London-born Cobham graduate would likely take the opportunity of coming back closer to home and turn up for an exciting Tottenham side that has the potential to win the lot in the future.
Illing-Junior, in 23 appearances across all competitions for Juve, has a goal and three assists to his name. The left-winger is also capable of leading the other flank. We have seen under Ange Postecoglou that Spurs play with inverted wingers, so the likelihood of the Illing-Junior playing predominantly as a right-winger makes more sense given he’s a left-footer.

The Express claim the Lilywhites’ interest in the Juventus winger, who has a price tag of £15.5m on him. Our current options on the right wing include Dejan Kulusevski and Brennan Johnson.
However, it would not take an expert to figure out that Johnson plays better on the left than the right and that is probably where he has a long-term future. Illing-Junior coming in to play on the right-hand side and giving Deki a run for his place in the XI makes optimum sense once we break down where our wingers play best.
Son Heung-min will most likely continue in his central role so that leaves Ange with four winger, and potentially, Illing-Junior if he joins over the January transfer window.

Considering how well our previous signings from Juve have fared, it won’t be a bad shout to bet on Illing-Junior making the switch. Deki and Rodrigo Bentancur have been great for the club, and hopefully, SIJ will have a role to play in the long-term future of the Lilywhites.
