Tottenham Hotspur have dropped plans to sign defender Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace
Ange Postecoglou has been constantly reminded of Micky van de Ven’s absence. In the wake of strengthening his backline, the Tottenham Hotspur manager is on the lookout for a solid defender. Postecoglou’s eyes were stuck on the Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi for a considerable period. However, per Football Insider (h/t Manchester Evening News), Spurs have pulled out of the race for unknown reasons.
Guehi is a prodigy who has turned all eyes on him for the right reasons. The 23-year-old has been a prominent figure in Roy Hodgson’s side. Guehl has featured in 17 games across all competitions this season for Palace. He is also a trusted individual for international manager Gareth Southgate.
Marc Guehi earned his senior cap in 2022 after featuring for The Three Lions across all junior levels. The stopper also captained his side to the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup glory. Many big clubs are already chasing the Crystal Palace centre-back who’s contracted with the club until 2026 (Transfermarkt).
Did Ange Postecoglou miss out on a saviour?
Tottenham are struggling with their backline. The void at the heart of the defence has been filled by full-backs and Postecoglou might soon be looking for strong alternatives. Having a defender like Guehi, who is strong both physically and mentally, could be sensational for the Lilywhites.
Tottenham don’t have a strong candidate for the January transfer window. The manager looks confident with his available options. Spurs now lie 5th on the league table despite marking a strong start to the campaign. Thrashing a strong Newcastle side 4-1 at home has re-established the positivity within the dressing room.
