Chelsea looking to hijack Tottenham Hotspur’s target Jean-Claire Todibo
According to the Daily Mail, despite Tottenham Hotspur being in talks with Jean-Claire Todibo, Chelsea is considering hijacking the potential transfer of the 23-year-old defender.
Todibo, valued at around £35 million, currently holds a contract that expires only in 2027. He joined Nice in 2021 after departing from Barcelona. Having emerged from the Toulouse youth system, the versatile player has previously been associated with prominent clubs such as Barcelona, Benfica, and FC Schalke before making a name for himself in the south of France.
Chelsea are dissatisfied with their defensive choices this season, having only secured four clean sheets and conceded 31 goals across 20 league matches so far. Clearly changes need to be made if they are to fight for trophies.
It’s evident that Chelsea is exploring the possibility of acquiring Jean-Claire Todibo through his agent Bruno Satin, who has previously facilitated dealings between the club and players like Kalidou Koulibaly. Despite Chelsea’s prior substantial investments in defensive players, the expected outcomes have not materialized.
Todibo’s impact at Nice has been noteworthy, contributing to their impressive defensive record. Nice’s second-place standing in the Ligue 1 table, conceding only nine goals in 17 games, highlights their prowess as one of the strongest defensive teams in the league.
This has undoubtedly increased Todibo’s appeal to clubs seeking defensive reinforcements, including Chelsea. January can be a challenging month for signing up targets, with a clear preference from the London side to avoid lengthy negotiations.
It’s hardly shocking that the Ligue 1 team are eager to hold on to Todibo, but the sheer amount of interest indicates that the winter transfer window will feel interminable for them. There is still a considerable distance to cover in the transfer window.

The number of players we can bring to our club is not as important as the quality of the players. One of the key factors contributing to our success in the league this season. We are eagerly anticipating the imminent signing of Todibo, earning us not just a solid defender but also denying Chelsea a potential difference maker. Two birds with one stone.
