Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou reveals his plans to give his players some rest ahead of a busy season

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou revealed that his players will be given some time to rest in a post-match interview as reported by British media outlet BBC. Ange Postecoglou was talking to the press following his side’s draw against Manchester United.

Postecoglou says,

“We have 10 days until the next game, hopefully get some players back and at least some training into these boys. We will give them some time off because they have earned it.”

Tottenham next play Manchester City on 27 January in FA Cup 4th-round clash. This means the Spurs boss has more than 10 days to ready his players ahead of the big game. The Lilywhites will be having a busy few days as they will be playing three games within a week’s span.

They host Brentford (1st Feb) and play away at Everton (3rd Feb) in the Premier League right after the City game. Postecoglou boasts immense squad depth and the busy week shouldn’t hurt him much.

What does the “rest mean” for the Spurs players?

Tottenham’s struggles with injuries aren’t a secret this season. The club lost players regularly due to injuries and suspensions, placing hurdles on their path. They are however back on track and gunning to move up the points table.

A busy schedule means more hard work and more injury risks, which the Spurs manager won’t be able to afford now. He finally has his defensive duo back in action as Micky van de Ven is back to his complete fitness and Cristian Romero isn’t drawing the referee’s attention due to recklessness.

Ange expects some of his remaining players will be back during this period and he can then fortify his squad. He will be anticipating James Maddison’s return more than anything. Heung-min Son’s return will be another good news that the manager awaits.

It is about time Tottenham stand up to the “Big Six” reputation. Every bit counts for the North Londoners and perhaps the “rest period” could be one of those.
