Micky van de Ven offers injury update after limping off in Manchester United draw
Tottenham Hotspur star Micky van de Ven has allayed any concerns about a potential injury after his substitution late in the draw with Manchester United.
The centre-back, who returned to action after a two-month absence due to a hamstring injury, impressed alongside Cristian Romero in the heart of the defence.
Despite United taking an early lead, Spurs showcased resilience with a goal from Richarlison and another from Rodrigo Bentancur. Van de Ven’s pace and defensive skills were evident, but he saw himself substituted in the dying minutes after experiencing cramp.
In a post-match interview with Sky via the Standard, Micky assured fans that the issue was not serious and attributed it to cramp. He expressed his happiness at returning to the pitch and acknowledged the high intensity of the game after an extended period of absence.
“Really happy to be back,”
“At the end a bit [of] cramp, but the rest was ok. It was just a cramp in the calf.”
“I didn’t play for I think two-and-a-half months and you saw the intensity of the game was really high, so to be honest I think minute 89, it was just cramp.”
It was in fact, minute 89 that he came off for Emerson Royal, who had been impressive as a centre-back in the absence of Micky and Cuti.
In any case, Micky’s return to the starting XI is surely a positive sign as Spurs look to return to their initial form when Ange Postecoglou’s side took the league by storm and sat unbeaten at the summit ten weeks into the campaign.
The boss will likely be pleased with Van de Ven’s performance and the overall defensive effort against United bar the two moments. The young defender’s pace, defensive acumen, and ability to adapt to high-intensity games make him a valuable asset as Spurs continue their campaign.
