Tottenham defender Pedro Porro sets a new record after stepping up under Ange Postecoglou
Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United locked horns quite intensely to see the game head for a draw. United took the lead twice but blew them. Considering their current form, Spurs should have capitalized on United’s mistakes but alas!
Tottenham’s right-back Pedro Porro stood out with his performance. The Spaniard managed to assist Richarlison for the first goal, creating a record in the process. According to stats from Squawka Football, Pedro Porro has now provided more assists in 2023/24 than any Tottenham defender has ever managed in a single Premier League campaign (7).
The 24-year-old was quite instrumental in defence and offence for his manager. Squawka Football’s tweet also said “Ange has created a monster”, referring to Porro’s growth under Postecoglou.
The draw means Tottenham will maintain the same spot (5th) and Manchester move one position above to 7th. However, they have played a game more than 8th-placed Brighton.
Porro’s career graph has been topsy-turvy
Pedro Porro does not boast an intimidating stature of extraordinary attributes but he is one of the most trusted players within Tottenham’s ranks. The Spanish defender has had a lengthy journey before finding his rightful place in a team.
Porro made his senior debut with Girona and remained there for two seasons. Premier League giants Manchester City stepped in to buy the Girona youngster in 2019. He was however loaned to Real Valladolid for a season. The La Liga outfit did not exercise the buying option, pushing Porro out of their squad.
Portugal was his next destination after being loaned out to Sporting CP by his parent club. He was signed by Tottenham on the deadline day of the 2023 winter window. The defender did not have a dream start at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, earning criticism from many.
