Timo Werner says he wasn’t quite calm ahead of the Manchester United clash
Tottenham Hotspur’s fresh arrival Timo Werner revealed his state of mind ahead of the Manchester United clash in the post-match press conference as reported by BBC. Werner also expressed his wish to have contributed more to the team.
The German said:
“To play for a new club in this stadium against United, you’re always a bit nervous. You try to enjoy it. You always want to score as the offensive player but if you can assist, that is also good.”
Werner registered an assist by setting up Rodrigo Bentancur inside Manchester’s box to pull things level for his side. However, the former Chelsea man felt he could have done more. The draw meant Tottenham would continue in the 5th position on the league table.
Timo Werner also took time to reflect on his return to England. He also revealed his plans to work harder with the team and create more impact for his new club.
Werner’s humility should win his fans’ trust
Timo Werner started for the North Londoners immediately upon his arrival. This means, the RB Leipzig star barely got any time to train or grasp Ange Postecoglou’s plans. He reprised his role as a left winger after long.
The need for a forward was imminent at the Spurs camp following captain Heung-min Son’s departure for national duties. Ange Postecoglou needed a seasoned star over a less experienced Bryan Gil. The latter is also rumoured to leave the club before the winter window slams close.
Timo Werner will certainly grow within the club should he take his training drills seriously. The return of James Maddison and Son to the squad might shake things a bit in terms of formation.
