Napoli wants Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre Emile Hojbjerg
According to The Telegraph [subscription required], Serie A giants Napoli are showing genuine interest in Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre Emile-Hojbjerg.
During Walter Mazzarri’s tenure as Watford manager, Napoli has been actively seeking to bolster their defensive midfield position. They have shown interest in Højbjerg and Saša Lukić, a Serbian international currently playing for Fulham.
The 28-year-old Dane participated in Sunday’s 2-2 tie with Manchester United, but teams are taking notice. The preferred midfield duo for the Australian team consists of Yves Bissouma and Pape Sarr. Hojbjerg has only started five times in the Premier League this season, mostly when Sarr and/or Bissouma were unavailable.
Napoli have indicated a desire to sign the Danish international, following reports that he was ready to leave north London amid his unhappiness at his role. It seems that Spurs’ refusal to sanction a loan move may have taken some of the suitors out of the running.
It seems that Napoli is in a position to make a substantial investment in an experienced midfielder and is determined to make the transfer happen. Tottenham are looking to sell, but they are being careful and waiting until the end of the month. This is because they have some important midfielders who are currently unavailable.
Napoli could potentially be caught in the middle of the ongoing negotiations between Chelsea and Tottenham for Gallagher, as both clubs have been in regular communication. If Hojbjerg departs, it will undoubtedly impact Spurs’ midfield choices, especially with the departures of Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma for the AFCON.
