Journo says Tottenham Hotspur ‘will keep their eyes open’ for a new player in key position

Postecoglou sheds light on Hojbjerg's discontent at Tottenham.

Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth indicates Tottenham Hotspur can still sign a new player this January

According to GIVEMESPORT, Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth, Tottenham Hotspur are still looking to sign another player in the January transfer window to reinforce their midfield. He also said that this might have a toll on the future of our Danish ace Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

Ange Postecoglou has been backed with a fair amount of spending power in the transfer market during his debut season as manager for the North London club. However, it is because of his leadership that Spurs are in a good position this time to make progress into continental competition and hopefully play next season’s UEFA Champions League. With still much to play for, Daniel Levy must give him the tools needed to succeed.

Sheth said:

“If there is sufficient interest in a player like Hojbjerg and it’s on a permanent deal, then I think Tottenham might consider doing business for Hojbjerg, provided they can bring in a replacement. Because we know that the Tottenham squad is pretty slim as it is. I know they brought in Werner and they brought in Dragusin, but that was almost just, as much as they wanted those players, to fill in that squad, because we’ve seen the issues that they’ve had when they’ve had injuries in certain positions. So I’m sure they’ll keep their eyes open in the midfield area in particular, but I think it might depend on outgoings as well at Tottenham.”

On the other hand, it appears that Postecoglou is actively seeking a dynamic midfielder who can excel in the heart of the midfield and also provide backup for James Maddison when needed. Conor Gallagher has emerged as a player who perfectly fits this profile, and Chelsea is reportedly open to negotiating a deal at the appropriate price. The pursuit of Gallagher aligns with Tottenham’s strategic approach to bolstering their midfield options for the current and future seasons.

The potential price tag for Conor Gallagher could reach a staggering £50 million, and while Tottenham is actively shaping their squad during the 2024 winter transfer window, there are factors that could complicate the situation. Gallagher has become a key player in Mauricio Pochettino’s squad, earning trust for his tactical acumen and being considered one of the best fits for Pochettino’s 4-3-3 system.

Despite recent acquisitions such as Timo Werner and Radu Dragusin, there are indications that Tottenham may not stop at these two signings, with the possibility of another midfielder joining before the end of January. The potential departures among players could also influence the club’s overall strategy.

Gallagher is currently relishing the increased responsibility at Chelsea, having taken on the captaincy in the absence of Reece James and Ben Chilwell. The evolving dynamics surrounding possible departures and new signings suggest a dynamic and strategic approach by Postecoglou and his scouting staff as they navigate the winter transfer window.

The addition of another midfielder to the team during this transfer window would be fantastic, particularly given the current challenges with several players out due to injury or international duty. This move would enhance the team’s depth, providing the manager with a broader array of options to choose from.

Finding a player who can make a significant impact as a backup is crucial, especially as the team is on the verge of a season where they could contend for the title. The strategic reinforcement of the squad aligns with the ambitious goals and aspirations set for the upcoming matches.
