Tottenham Hotspur player Brennon Johnson praises Ange Postecoglou’s decision to give him a chance
Speaking to the BBC Match of the Day, Tottenham Hotspur player Brennon Johnson says that it was the right-decision from Ange Postecoglou to give him an opportunity to play as it helped Spurs to turn the game around.
Postecoglou was evidently unimpressed with the first-half performance and opted to make two substitutions during halftime.
Johnson said:
“He [manager Ange Postecoglu] explains why we need a big squad, we have had a lot of injuries, so it was probably the right choice for me to have a breather. When I came on I wanted to score, as I haven’t for a while.”
Oliver Skipp and Rodrigo Bentancur were replaced by Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Brennan Johnson. Thanks to the Australian changes, Spurs scored three times in the first eleven minutes of the second half. Johnson and Hojbjerg’s performances must have left a strong impression on Postecoglou as he stated that they significantly influenced the game for Spurs last night.
Destiny Udogie equalised for Spurs before Johnson scored their second goal of the evening. After a challenging period, the 22-year-old found himself on the bench. However, a well-taken goal provided us with a much-needed confidence boost.
Regarding Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, it is anticipated that he will face a decrease in his position following James Maddison’s comeback. After witnessing last night’s performance, it is clear that he still holds a crucial position. The player showcased a remarkable display in the midfield, effectively aiding Spurs in swiftly advancing the ball up the pitch during the latter half.
With two goals and four assists in the Premier League this season, Johnson’s tally continues to impress. His goal will surely help him prove his worth and silence any critics he may have.

With that goal, perhaps some individuals will finally recognise that Brennan Johnson is not at fault for Spurs in any way. He is putting in a lot of effort, finding himself in promising positions, and while there are areas where he could use some improvement, that is true for most players. It’s a joy to witness him finding the back of the net against the Bees.
