Tottenham Hotspur star Micky van de Ven believes Richarlison deserved to win the Everton clash

Tottenham Hotspur stronghold Micky van de Ven feels for his teammate Richarlison after an unlucky draw against Everton. Speaking to The Review Show, the defender said:

“Richie (Richarlison) played really well. He has scored some important goals for us. It’s unlucky for him to not get away with three points despite two goals.”

The North Londoners found an early lead via Richarlison’s 4th-minute strike. The Brazilian scored another in the 41st minute to lead the game once again. However, a Jarrad Branthwaite header in the 97th minute made his efforts go in vain.

Richarlison struggled at Spurs for the longest period. The former Everton man has stepped up this season, particularly since December. He has scored nine goals in the past eight games, including the brace against his former team.

Although, his heroics weren’t enough to win all three points for the North London outfits. Spurs slip back to the 5th position, while Richarlison continues with his firing form.

Is Ange targeting the right issues?

The brief absence of Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero raised concerns over Tottenham’s defensive depths. He deployed backup options Ben Davies and Emerson Royal while also signing Radu Dragusin from Genoa, to address the issue.

Fans, pundits and even the head coach himself believed the only problem left was ‘goal-scoring’. James Maddison’s injury and Heung-min Son’s departure for the Asian Cup cemented the doubts over the club’s attacking unit.

Richarlison was on the receiving end on most occasions due to his subpar form. However, it seems Tottenham are experiencing a change of tides. The Brazilian has hit the purple patch, with Timo Werner and Dejan Kulusevski aiding him. There are also Brennan Johnson and Rodrigo Bentancur doing their parts in creating chances in the final third.

From the looks of it, the boss is back to where he began, dealing with defensive weaknesses. Tottenham have failed to keep a clean sheet on more than two occasions from their last 14 Premier League outings. The former Celtic manager will have to solve the issues at the back four, should he aim to secure the UCL spot for the next season.
