Tottenham star Dejan Kulusevski talks about Cristiano Ronaldo’s inspiring work.

Dejan Kulusevski recently opened up about his professional life in a vulnerable letter to his fans. He initially started it to talk to fans about his career trajectory and to explain why he made the shift from Juventus to Tottenham. However, later it turned into a narrative that flagged off the most pivotal moments in his story.

One of the incidents he narrates is about meeting his wife, Eldina who is also a player. This is immediately followed by saying that dreams can come true, displayed by the fact that he got to see Cristiano Ronaldo train and shared the field with him.

This is not a surprise because Ronaldo’s impact and fame are undeniable in the game. Deki’s letter is a testament to this fact.

How Ronaldo impacted the Swedish boy, like many others.

Dejan, in his letter, says that Ronaldo is one of the few players who inspires him. After training, everyone would be on their phones but that Ronaldo had the restraint and self-control that allowed him to be present. He says (h/t The Players Tribune):

“And Cristiano? What a guy, man.  After training everyone would be on their phones, tap, tap tap, but not him. You could see how hard he worked, how much he wanted it, even though he had nothing left to prove. I gotta be honest, I have never been the type to ask teammates for favours, but I asked Cristiano to sign his shirt, and I gave it to my mother.”

The player has a big impact on Deki’s career because playing with him made the latter not quit. While he was initially considering moving back to Sweden and getting a normal job, playing with one of the greats (Cristiano Ronaldo) made him realise he was living his dream. He figured that he had more to give.

Learning to give credit where it is due is very important. In Deki’s career, Ronaldo holds an extremely important spot. When his mental health was deteriorating, playing with Chris was important to him. It is only fair that he got a space in his text.
