Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou underlines three issues in defeat to Fulham

In the 3-0 loss to Fulham, Spurs were bad defenders, bad controllers of the ball in the middle of the park, and bad finishers. This was how bad Tottenham played against a top side managed by a top-class manager who has inspired so much change at the West London outfit. Nevertheless, fair play to them, and clumsy commiserations to Ange Postecoglou.

Why clumsy you ask? That is how the visitors played at Craven Cottage. There are a few pointers as per Postecoglou, where the side faced issues, and speaking of them, here is what he told the BBC after the 3-0 loss:

“It’s something we need to analyse I thought we were careless on the ball. We were too keen to get forward. We lacked some conviction in our last third play. It’s part of our growth. Feel that pain and learn from it. It does go down as a bad day at the office but we don’t accept it. First half was even enough. It wasn’t our normal levels. We didn’t have the same intensity in our play. It’s a big part of who we are.”

Rightly analysed, the intensity seemed off from the get-go. Usually, Tottenham start games in fifth gear, but Fulham asserted control over the proceedings soon to ensure Spurs were not played into their strengths.

Defensive solidity is fundamental to any successful team, and Tottenham’s lapses in this area proved costly against Fulham.

Shortcomings!

Tottenham’s shortcomings in the attacking third, where they lacked conviction and clinical finishing eventually took the game as far away from us as possible. Despite creating promising opportunities, Spurs struggled to capitalise on their chances and convert them into goals, ultimately squandering crucial scoring opportunities that could have altered the outcome of the game.

While the defeat to Fulham undoubtedly represents a setback for Tottenham, adversity can catalyse improvement. By acknowledging and addressing the weaknesses head-on, Spurs can bounce back stronger and emerge as a more cohesive and resilient unit.
