Scott Munn’s influence at Tottenham is growing, but what does he do?

Tottenham correspondent for Football. London Alasdair Gold recently disclosed that Spurs new chief footballing officer Scott Munn has been given greater authority than anyone who has worked at the club under ENIC and Daniel Levy ownership.

Owing to the abundance of pressure from fans, Levy decided to step away from the majority of footballing operations at N17 off late. Levy’s step backward complemented by Fabio Paratici’s forced resignation owing to his involvement in a financial scandal at Juventus has given space to backend restructuring at Tottenham Hotspur.

Scott Munn was appointed as the new chief footballing officer at Spurs and Levy’s number two while Tottenham also brought in Johan Lange in the capacity of sporting director.

But, what does a chief footballing officer do? Isn’t it just a made up position in a corporate power struggle?

Scott Munn was quizzed about his role as chief football officer at Tottenham by Football.London in his first interview since starting his position at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in July last year, where the 50-year-old replied:

“I look after everything that’s to do with football operations, so whether it’s the technical element through Johan Lange, who is our technical director, or women’s football or the academy led by Simon Davies, through to operations of the training centre. Then for us it’s about competing at every level. This year we’re continuing to change and improve and hopefully we’ll see ourselves finish as high as we possibly can.”

These words indicate the growing presence of Munn at Tottenham, it is not only about footballing operations but reading between the lines indicates he sets up a club wide culture that ensures the club levels up with the passing year and improves in a multi-faceted manner.

Munn’s description of his job also indicates how he is more focused on overseeing the football side at N17 beyond the men’s team (including academy and women’s team) while his predecessor Fabio Paratici focused majorly on the recruiting side of things.

Spurs faithful will be hoping to progress, compete and eventually win silverware as the Australian’s power grows at the club.

Tottenham are scheduled to visit Australia for second season in a row.

Tottenham will also visit Munn’s homeland following the conclusion of this season as they line-up to face Newcastle United in a friendly at Melbourne Cricket Ground.
