Scott Munn’s role in bringing Ange Postecoglou to Tottenham and their path to success

Tottenham Hotspur’s new chief footballing officer Scott Munn and his arrival at North London was always linked with appointment of Ange Postecoglou as the pair hail from same homeland.

While many considered as a massive leap from Scottish football to Premier League, Scott Munn did a massive job to convince Daniel Levy and other officials at Tottenham about the credentials of Postecoglou which is reaping massive rewards for the club.

Scott has worked in Australia for a decade.
Scott has worked in Australia for a decade.

Scott Munn has worked in Australian football as the CEO of A-League side Melbourne City for a decade before taking over the Chinese operations of City Football Group. CFG owns Yokohama F Marinos, the Japanese club that Ange Postecoglou managed before taking over at Celtic in 2021.

The 50-year-old, during his stint at Melbourne, also saw Ange Postecoglou’s Brisbane Roar dominate Melbourne City to multiple league titles.

The parallels between both careers makes you think that it was meant to be that they unite at a club bringing abundance of experience and pull that club out of trenches to titles, the surely have done the former and are setting Tottenham up for the latter.

Speaking in his first interview since taking over as chief footballing officer at Tottenham, Scott Munn was quizzed about his role in singing Ange at Tottenham and how has he found working with Ange, where he said:

On bringing Ange to Tottenham:

“I think what was most important when we searched for that new manager was to bring in someone who could return the club to its DNA, so there was a team of people that worked on bringing Ange in and I think everyone will continue to monitor his progress both here in Australia and here in England.”

On their relationship

“It’s good. Look we’re Australian so we have the same jokes, we get to watch a bit of the A-League in the morning on Thursdays when we’re in the office, but he’s embraced everything that Spurs is about. He wants success and that is sustained success, so our alignment is completely in lockstep.”

Scott’s words show the brilliant chemistry the pair has which generally translates to the staffs at Hotspur Way. It’s interesting to note how both want to create a sustained success at Tottenham while ensuring that the culture at Tottenham is embraced, first by themselves and then by the players and supporters.

Tottenham have already come a long way with Scott & Ange leading the charge, but there is still long way to go and supporters will be feeling safe with the pair handling the club.
