Timo Werner eyeing a permanent Tottenham move
According to Matt Law of The Telegraph, Timo Werner is already looking at possibilities to convert his loan deal at Tottenham Hotspur into a permanent one.
Spurs signed the German international on an initial loan deal from RB Leipzig in the winter transfer window. He was aimed at adding depth to Tottenham’s front line, but the 28-year-old has proven to be much more than what he was initially brought for.
The loan deal that brought Timo to North London reportedly has a £14.5 million option to buy that needs to be activated before the European Championship starts on June 14. Tottenham could still sign Timo beyond the expiry of the option, but they will have to face competition and a probable inflated price for his services.
Ange praises ‘mature’ Timo
Timo Werner has settled into life in London seamlessly, maybe better than when he was at Chelsea. The German international boasts a decent tally of two goals and two assists in eight Premier League appearances for Tottenham.
Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou spoke about Timo and the impact he has had at the club since his arrival:
“I think he’s been really important. You can only imagine if we didn’t bring him in in January, it would have been a much bigger burden on the other players in the group. Particularly when Sonny was away as well.
“We threw him in straight away and when you come in in January, especially for someone like Timo, standing as a mature player, he’s not a young player we’ve brought in to develop, we’re bringing him in to make an impact, and I think he has made an impact for us.
“I do think there’s more to come from him for sure. He’s working hard in training. I think his performances are improving.”
Werner & the impact he has had at Spurs
Timo Werner has developed massively under the Australian gaffer, which has seen him work hard on and off the ball while leveraging his strengths on the pitch.
The 28-year-old would like to make his loan a permanent one. Spurs can ponder such a bargain transfer if Saudi clubs were to come in for Richarlison in the summer once again. Timo could be signed as a backup striker alongside a marquee number nine.
His arrival has aided in covering for Manor Solomon’s injury and for Son when he travelled to the Asian Cup.
