Tottenham captain Son shines for South Korea in Thailand draw

Tottenham captain Heung-Min Son donned the South Korean colours for the first time since their semi-final loss in the Asia Cup earlier this year as they drew 1-1 to Thailand on Thursday.

Son continues to feature in the central position for his country like he is under Ange Postecoglou in North London. Sun-Hong Hwang’s team are still undefeated in World Cup Qualifiers with a tally of two wins and a draw in three played. The under-23 coach Hwang Sun-hong takes temporary charge of the Korean team following the dismissal of German Klinsmann.

Tottenham skipper was influential in yesterday’s draw against Thailand as he opened the scoring just before half-time at Seoul World Cup Stadium. Son got on the end of Mainz midfielder Jae-Sune Lee as he put his nation ahead with a nicely placed finish in the far post. This was Heung-Min Son’s 44th goal for South Korea.

Thailand found an equaliser in the second half, with a left-footed shot from Suphanat Mueanta found the bottom left corner from close range.

The hosts had multiple opportunities to score again, but they failed to capitalize on them as the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

Being the star that he is, Heung-Min Son carries the burden of the nation on his shoulders and is expected to make an impact every time he takes field representing. This conveys the quality he possesses and the pressure he deals with, for Korea as well as for Tottenham.
