Guglielmo Vicario has had an impressive start to his time in North London, as he has exceeded expectations following his move from Empoli in the summer.
Ange Postecoglou & Co. made an early move to bring the Italian goalkeeper to N17 during the summer transfer window as the Australian tactician took charge of his first season at the club. The former Celtic manager wanted to play a possession-based game, so he brought in a goalkeeper with ball-playing abilities who has intent with the ball at his feet.
As Hugo Lloris’s time at the club came to an end, Vicario grasped an opportunity to become number one at N17 for a prolonged period. As Vicario grasped his opportunity, he has become number one between the sticks for the club, and considering the cheap fees he signed for at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, he could become one of the signings of the season.

Vicario did not play for one of the renowned Italian clubs and was still a relatively unknown player when Tottenham brought him to England. His signing is reaping massive dividends for Spurs owing to the impact he is having between the woodworks, especially with his feet. The Italian has been one of the best, if not the best, in the league in multiple facets of the game.
Following the massive impact he has had at N17, Ange Postecoglou praised him and expressed his delight about landing his signatures:
“You get presented with some options and I just really liked Vicario from the start in terms of the characteristics he has as a goalkeeper. His agility, his demeanour, his character. He hasn’t had a long time at the top level, similar to Micky van de Ven. I like players who have worked their way up from a low level very quickly because it shows that they adapt very quickly but also that they’re coachable, that they learn.”
