Multiple losses and mounting pressure at White Hart Lane
Tottenham Hotspur endured another difficult day at work as the club has now lost four high-profile games in succession following yesterday’s defeat against Liverpool at Anfield Stadium. It was another game where the opponents got ahead of the Lilywhites in the majority of technical aspects of the game.
Following the 4-2 defeat against Jurgen Klopp’s side, the North Londoner’s hope for a possible Champions League qualification is all in the water now. This comes as a big blow for the season that Spurs have enjoyed under the Australian gaffer and the progress they have made since he took charge at N17.
While Tottenham got dominated by Jurgen Klopp’s side, one player in particular enjoyed a leeway at Anfield Stadium, Mohamed Salah. While Salah had another performance that depicted his excellent quality, Tottenham full-back Emerson Royal had a day to forget.
Emerson Royal does not usually play in the left-back position and has not played regularly this season after former Sporting CP full-back Pedro Porro took over his place at right-back earlier this season. The Brazilian has since been limited to only eleven appearances this season, and most of them did not come in his natural right-back role. Royal has played filler in the central defensive role as well this season.
Tottenham’s defensive woes exposed as Micah Richards describes Royal’s horror show
Former Manchester City full-back Micah Richards has spoken about the performance Emerson Royal endured yesterday. He acknowledged that the Brazilian had a nightmare performance and went on to criticize his body shape and angles in dealing with a veteran like Mo Salah.
Speaking on the Rest is Football podcast, Micah Richards said:
“It’s not helped Udogie being out as well. Davies came into the team and got injured last game. Then, Emerson Royal – he had a nightmare this evening (yesterday).
“I’ve been there myself, no matter what you do, things are not coming or going your way.
“I think it’s always hard as well for a right-footer to defend on the left-hand side because your body shape, everything is completely different. And because he’s a more offensive player, he really got caught out defensively.”

While it was a performance to forget for Emerson Royal, it is pointless to criticize his body shapes and angles when he was playing out of position.
For Tottenham, they have to ensure that the club ends the season on a high, and a win against Manchester City could help regain the lost confidence.
