Archie Gray, the new Tottenham Hotspur signing talks about the Ange Postecoglou influence
In his first interview as a Tottenham Hotspur player as quoted by the Mirror, Archie Gray talks about how manager Ange Postecoglou influenced his decision to swap Elland Road for the N17.
Gray was announced as a new Tottenham Hotspur signing earlier today. Staying true to their philosophy of signing young players with a high ceiling as they have shown in the past couple of transfer windows, Spurs might have just signed their biggest talent yes.
A Leeds boy throughout, the 18-year-old made the move to North London after his previous employers had to make a sale before the deadline to comply with the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules.
Safe to say, the decision has not gone down well with the majority of the Whites supporters but the club had to decide on one of their more sellable assets. Ultimately, Leeds’ loss is Spurs’ gain as we now have our hands on a true prodigy.
Speaking about the decision to move to Spurs, Gray explained how Ange Postecoglou had a role to play behind the decision to the official website
“I’m not going to lie to you. I’m a massive Celtic fan, so I love him, my whole family love him. I haven’t really said this to be fair, but he’s a massive factor because playing under a really good manager is really important for me as well. I’ve still got loads to learn because I’m only 18 so that’s really important. It still hasn’t sunk in to be honest and I don’t think it will for the next few days and until we’ve played a few games and I’ve got to meet everyone. I’m just really excited and looking forward to it. It’s massive opportunity for me and I’m really excited.”
Those were mature words indeed from a teenager who clearly seems to have his feet on the ground despite securing such a high-profile move. He made 52 appearances for Leeds last season in their bid for Premier League promotion, even chipping in with two assists.
On the pitch, Gray is a player who reminds you of Bayern Munich superstar Joshua Kimmich. This is not to say that the teenager is at the same level as the German but the comparisons are there for everyone to see.
Gray played the majority of his football at right-back for Daniel Farke’s side last season although he always loved inverting into midfield, which is where his primary position on a football pitch is. This would be tailor-made for Postecoglou considering how he used Pedro Porro last season.

Spurs have made two unbelievable signings for midfield, although Gray can also be used in defence. Lucas Bergvall is also now a Tottenham player and we must not forget that he is an extremely talented prospect too. Let’s wait and see how the duo perform in Postecoglou’s team this season.
