Barcelona submit official offer to sign Hull City forward Jaden Philogene amidst Tottenham Hotspur interest
Popular journalist Florian Plettenberg has revealed that Barcelona have taken the first step in the race to sign 22-year-old Hull City winger Jaden Philogene amidst Tottenham Hotspur’s interest.
We had mentioned a few days ago that Tottenham Hotspur and Barcelona are finding themselves in a transfer battle for an unlikely star playing in the Championship. Spurs’ interest here was cited from Football Insider.
It’s unlikely to see two top European clubs battle it out for the signature of a Championship forward. Delving deeper into this, it is even rarer to see a club like Barcelona make a concrete approach for a youngster playing in the second division of English football.
That said, it’s obvious that the England U-21 is someone with a high ceiling and is bound to make it big if he continues progressing in a similar trajectory. The 22-year-old scored 12 goals and six assists in 33 games across all competitions for the Tigers last season.
Philogene has a contract with Hull City until 2026 (Transfermarkt). He is unlikely to renew his contract with the Tigers when big clubs are lurking around to sign him. Right now, it is Barcelona who have made the first move.
Florian Plettenberg has revealed in his tweet that the Catalan club have made a loan-to-buy offer which becomes obligatory subject to performance-related incentives. It’s a low-risk deal which would allow Barcelona to evaluate the player before pulling the trigger. Here are the details revealed by the reputed journalist.
“Been told the interest of FC Barcelona in Jaden #Philogene is very concrete now! Excl. Detail: @FCBarcelona have submitted an official offer to Hull City! One-year loan with an obligation to buy (which is tied to certain conditions such as playing time) in 2025 of around €20-23m! Contract of the 22 y/o talented winger is valid until 2026. Barcelona have analyzed him in detail.”
If Barcelona have analyzed him and decided that this is a prospect they must pursue, it won’t be without its merits. The Spanish club have been impressive in recent transfer windows with the kind of players they have been pursuing.
Tottenham need to figure out if they want to make a move for the 22-year-old. He will be a different profile to the wingers we have at our disposal and would add something exciting to Ange Postecoglou’s attack.

Generally, when clubs like Barcelona or Real Madrid come knocking for a player’s signature, it’s very difficult to compete with them but Philogene being English could give us an advantage. Let’s wait and see how this particular transfer story pans out.
