AC Milan and Tottenham Hotspur set to hold meeting for Emerson Royal’s transfer
Tottenham Hotspur have signed Archie Gray from Leeds United, with the Englishman’s signing likely to spell the end for Emerson Royal at north London.
Gray’s versatility makes him capable of playing as a full-back as well as an occasional central midfielder, Emerson’s secondary position and is expected to compel the Brazilian to reconsider his future at Spurs.
AC Milan are interested in completing his signing as they require a wing-back and are set to hold a meeting with Tottenham this week to potentially close out a transfer, as per Gianluca di Marzio.
Emerson is unlikely to be a key part of Ange Postecoglou’s plans going forward having only made 22 Premier League appearances in the Australian’s maiden season with the Lilywhites.
While the former Real Betis defender started the season in good form, Pedro Porro proved too good a player to be left on the bench for Spurs and he eventually rose to prominence as the campaign progressed.
Emerson’s lack of defensive utility came back to haunt him, but it is unlikely to be much of a deterrent in the Serie A, where wing-backs with good attacking gameplay thrive as teams prefer using a three-man backline with the full-backs playing higher up the pitch.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Tottenham have priced Emerson Royal at $32.5 million as Daniel Levy looks to gain as much money as possible from his investment in the player in 2021 when he arrived from Barcelona.
With his age in mind, Spurs are in the right place to demand a $32.5 million transfer fee for Emerson, which the Rossoneri would be able to oblige without very stern negotiations.

Tottenham’s meeting with AC Milan could close out a transfer for Emerson. Though they are not under pressure financially, the South American’s sale will help the Premier League giants in sanctioning signings for other reasons, with Postecoglou reportedly looking to sign a winger.
