Real Madrid join the race to sign Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi who is on Tottenham Hotspur’s radar
According to London World, Spanish giants Real Madrid have joined the race to sign talented English centre-back Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace who has long been admired by North London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.
Guehi has been one of the more impressive performers in a stale England side at the Euros 2024. Gareth Southgate has copped a lot of criticism for the lack of intent with which the Three Lions have played their games so far.
One player who has stepped in admirably in the absence of regular centre-back Harry Maguire has been Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi. Along with John Stones, he has done a decent job keeping the opposition attack at bay in most of the games.
This has unsurprisingly caught the eye of big clubs around the world with Real Madrid hoping to unite him with his English teammate Jude Bellingham. However, Arsenal and Spurs have both been interested in signing the ex-Chelsea academy graduate for quite some time now.
The 23-year-old made 29 appearances for the Eagles last season and was a rock at the back. Under Oliver Glasner, Crystal Palace are building an interesting project but are visibly struggling to keep hold of the stars.
According to the Sun, Crystal Palace are looking at around £50 million to part ways with the English defender. That is pretty much similar to the fee they held out for when Bayern came calling for Michael Olise.
Currently, Tottenham really do not need someone of Guehi’s calibre considering the options we already have. Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven are guaranteed starters with Radu Dragusin an excellent option to rotate with either one of them.
The Crystal Palace defender is unlikely to agree to a bit-part role and will want his next move to be a big one. Whilst Tottenham are undoubtedly building an exciting project, it is not something Guehi will fancy being a part of.

The better his performances are for England in the Euros, the more the demand will be for his services ahead of next season. However, Spurs must not get sucked into this narrative and focus on other positions where we are comparatively lighter.
