Tottenham star Rodrigo Bentancur receives advances from international teammate to join Galatasaray
Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou has been a breath of fresh air since arriving at the club from Scottish giants Celtic last summer.
The Australian’s best characteristic and perhaps the one which has rendered him a fan favourite has been his selection policy, which has strictly been on merit.
Understandably, several players are unhappy and could be on the move this summer with Rodrigo Bentancur among those linked with a transfer overseas.
As per Turkish news outlet Milli Gazette, Uruguayan international Fernando Muslera is trying to convince Bentancur to join Galatasaray in the ongoing transfer window.
Muslera and Bentancur are currently in the United States on international duty, representing Uruguay in the Copa America, where they have reached the quarter-final stage.
The former Juventus midfielder has scored once in the competition, against Bolivia, but altogether, he has featured only for 20 minutes across three matches under Marcelo Bielsa.
His lack of playing time has reflected even at Tottenham, where he made just 23 appearances in the Premier League last season, thereby hinting that a transfer elsewhere to reignite his career may very well be on the cards.
Galatasaray would present a fresh challenge for the 27-year-old, where he would be taken under Muslera’s wings and could possibly thrive in an environment with relatively low pressure.
Tottenham, however, may not easily part with Bentancur as he remains a quality midfielder and has the best years of his career ahead of him.
Last season, he suffered two separate ligament tears which ruled him out of action but when available to play, his importance for Spurs was there to see.
Postecoglou may not block Bentancur’s exit if he desires to leave, but there is no reason for Tottenham to sell him and it does not look likely that the player himself is keen on leaving.

Any fresh and concrete update on Bentancur’s future will need to wait until the end of Uruguay’s participation in the Copa America, though his utility to Spurs in pre-season may go a long way in dictating whether he will be a part of their plans next season, or choose to pursue a career elsewhere.
