Tottenham Hotspur have set their sights on Michael Kayode but face Aston Villa competition
According to Italian outlet Viola News, Tottenham Hotspur have set their sights on talented Fiorentina right-back Michael Kayode this summer but face competition for his signature in the form of Aston Villa.
We had mentioned recently that Tottenham and AC Milan are in negotiations over a transfer for Brazilian right-back Emerson Royal with the player already giving the green light to move to Italy. However, the two parties are yet to agree on the terms.
If the ex-Barcelona man was to leave for the Rossoneri, that would leave a gaping hole in defence with Pedro Porro being the only recognized right-back at the club. Yes, we have just signed Archie Gray but Postecoglou might be viewing the teenager as a midfielder.
If that is indeed the case, then Spurs will have to go into the market for a right-back and unsurprisingly, they could turn to the Serie A for their signing. After all, the North London club have done plenty of business in the Italian top flight in recent seasons.
The player in question is Fiorentina’s right-back Michael Kayode. The 19-year-old’s displays last season have caught the eye and he really looks like a player with a high ceiling. The Italy U-21 international looks like a generational talent judging by the way he plays.
Premier League clubs Spurs and Villa are interested in securing his signature but do not want to fork out in excess of €20m. The Italian club on the other hand know they have the stronger hand in this negotiation and want to wait it out for €25m.
Whilst the gap in valuation doesn’t seem that huge, we must remember that we are talking about a 19-year-old here. The amount that Fiorentina are asking for is not normal and is usually spent when the player has truckloads of obvious potential.
Gray’s acquisition is likely to throw the spanner in the works when it comes to a deal for Kayode. Not to take anything away from the Italian youngster but why sign another player when we already have someone who can do the job?

Kayode is a huge talent but despite our penchant for signing high-potential youngsters in recent seasons, we must skip this one. It doesn’t make financial sense and the amount would be better off being used in some other position to reinforce the squad.
