Tottenham Hotspur expected to offer Djed Spence to other clubs after Genoa move breaks down
According to BBC journalist Nizaar Kinsella on X (formerly Twitter), Tottenham Hotspur are now expected to offer out-of-favour Djed Spence to other clubs after talks with Genoa have broken down due to a failure to agree on a fee.
Spence signed for Spurs as a highly rated talent in Antonio Conte’s regime but it became very clear early on that the Italian coach did not fancy the youngster. He was eventually shipped out on loan after loan, with Postecoglou failing to place trust on him.
Conte not placing trust on Spence is understandable considering the Italian coach doesn’t have a track record of depending on youth in any of his teams. However, Postecoglou is different and has place immsense faith in a number of youngsters throughout his career.
Spence was loaned out to Leeds United for the first half of last season. Calling this stint disastrous will be an understatement. Eventually, he was recalled and loaned out yet again to Serie A club Genoa, from whom Tottenham purchased Radu Dragusin.
The Romanian has struggled to become a regular starter at Spurs but his time will come. However, Spence did manage to catch the eye with his performances in the Serie A which prompted Genoa to negotiate for him.
After long drawn negotiations, the two parties involved have failed to come to a concurrence over a fee. Whilst the Italian club still remain interested, Spurs are unlikely to wait any longer and will start listening to offers. Here is what journalist Kinsella had to say about the same.
“Genoa remain interested in Tottenham defender Djed Spence but can’t agree on a fee. He’s expected to now be offered to other clubs”
In hindsight, Spurs was a very rash purchase from the Spurs board, especially considering the fact that the then manager did not want him at the club. The board who have conducted themselves amicably in recent windows failed with this particular signing though.
At this moment, the 23-year-old does not have what it takes to play for a club of Tottenham’s stature. Despite the impending exit of Emerson Royal, Spurs are not expected to keep Spence in the squad even for backup.

Not every transfer that every club makes works out and Spence is one that we’ll have to write off. Let’s hope we can move on from him once and for all this season. This will give both parties the opportunity to start afresh and put this not-so-memorable chapter behind them.
