Tottenham in race with Aston Villa for £49m rated star thriving at Euro 2024

Tottenham Hotspur consider blockbuster summer move for Nico Williams

Tottenham Hotspur are keen to snap up Spanish prodigy Nico Williams as the North Londoners persist with monitoring the Athletic Bilbao winger, per Football Insider.

The 21-year-old fits into Spurs transfer policy off late as they continue to sign high-potential young players who can be shaped to suit Ange Postecoglou‘s playing style in the years to come. Nico has been adding to his reputation at the ongoing European Championships in Germany. In three appearances at EURO 2024, Nico Williams has scored one and assisted one goal, helping Spain reach the quarterfinals.

Williams has a £49 million release clause in his current contract with Athletic Bilbao, which seems appealing thanks to his immense potential. However, his wage demands have put off potential suitors from making a move this summer. Spanish giants Barcelona have tried to snap his services; however, they were scared off by the salary demands, and the Premier League now seems like the only viable destination if the 21-year-old were to leave Bilbao this summer.

Spurs eye “star in the making” Nico Williams

Tottenham Hotspur consider blockbuster summer move for Nico Williams.

The report states that the officials at Hotspur Way have been highly impressed with the Spanish international and believe he is a “star in the making,” especially if he were to move to the English top tier.

Alongside Tottenham, Aston Villa are big admirers of Nico Williams, with Unai Emery a huge fan of the Spanish prodigy. The likes of Arsenal have also been named as potential suitors; however, we will have to see if any of the aforementioned clubs are ready to offer such mammoth wages to the 21-year-old.

This scenario places Tottenham in a potentially advantageous position to secure Williams’ services, provided they are willing to meet his financial expectations. The North London club’s commitment to developing young talent under Postecoglou’s guidance could make Spurs an attractive option for Williams, offering him a platform to further his career in one of the world’s most competitive leagues.
