Lo Celso to Betis? Fekir sale key to Argentine’s return
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Giovani Lo Celso has been linked with a move away from White Hart Lane this summer, and Spanish side Real Betis are looking to sanction a departure for star midfielder Nabil Felir to aid in bringing the Argentine maestro this summer.
The North Londoners acquired Lo Celso in a €60 million transfer after a tremendous season at Real Betis. The move was regarded as a highly anticipated headline transfer, with the Argentine maestro coming in to take the creative helm from Eriksen. However, in retrospect, it has not worked as expected for any of the parties involved, and his time at N17 could be numbered.
Lo Celso circles back?
Gio has fallen the pecking order at White Hart Lane, and it looks like we may have seen the last of him wearing the Spurs badge. Real Betis are looking at the 28-year-old as they look to replace exit-linked Nabil Fekir, per AS.
The Argentine has had quite a few successful loan spells away from White Hart Lane, which reinforces the fact that he is still a quality player in search of confidence. Albeit many Spurs faithful, the former PSG midfielder may finally find his feet on the N17 after Ange Postecoglou decided to keep him at Hotspur Way last summer.
While Lo Celso remained at Tottenham for the 2023–24 season, he only accumulated 597 minutes of first-team action under his belt, which came across 24 appearances. Frustrated with his lack of playing time at Spurs, he has decided to move on from his time in North London this summer.
With only one year left on his contract at N17, the North Londoners would want to get a decent return on his investment rather than lose him for nothing next season. While Betis has expressed keenness to secure his signatures, they do not possess the financial flexibility to acquire the Argentine’s services this summer. They will only be able to afford a potential deal if they can sell Fakir to the Saudi Pro League this summer.
Fekir has the highest salary at Real Betis, and they will have wiggle room with the wage structure for Lo Celso if they can sell him this summer.
