Romano reveals 24-year-old who Pep Guardiola thinks is 'incredible' is on Tottenham radar

Wolves winger Pedro Neto is on Tottenham Hotspur’s radar

According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Wolves winger Pedro Neto this summer.

Ange Postecoglou is looking to build on a successful debut season in north London by bringing in quality signings over the summer transfer window. He will be desperate to go one better and qualify for the Champions League in the 2024/25 season, whilst ending the club’s long trophy drought.

After securing a deal for Archie Gray from Leeds United, Tottenham are supposedly trying to reinforce their attack with a new wide player. Dejan Kulusevski’s inconsistency coupled with Manor Solomon’s injury-ravaged debut season at the club perhaps has led to Spurs eyeing a new winger in this transfer window.

Wolves star Pedro Neto has emerged as a target for Ange Postecoglou’s side. Speaking on his transfer update live show, Fabrizio Romano confirmed on Playback that the Portugal international is admired by Spurs but remain hesitant to make a move due to his recurrent injury issues.

“Pedro Neto and Spurs, he is one of the names they have on the list,” Romano stated on Playback.

“Pedro Neto, for sure, the only doubt has always been on injuries, so that is the point to clarify on Pedro Neto, but he’s one of the players they appreciate.”

Neto’s exploits for Wolves in recent years has brought admiration from most of Europe’s top leagues. Regardless of another injury-hit season, the Portuguese dasher scored three goals and registered eleven assists in 24 appearances across all competitions as Gary O’Neil’s side finished 14th on the table.

There is no doubting the 24-year-old’s talent and ability to win games single-handedly, as we have witnessed many times in the Premier League. Neto can be world-class on his day and rip apart defences with his pace, flair, directness and energy, but recurrent injury problems continue to hinder his progress. Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola called him an ‘incredible player’ back in 2021.

Although the Portuguese wideman has showcased his quality in flashes for Wolves since signing from Lazio in 2019, the fact of the matter is that he has only managed 135 total appearances in five seasons at Molineux. For a player who is now 24 and keen to develop into a more-rounded attacker, it is not good enough.

More Tottenham Hotspur News:

Postecoglou’s system involves high energy, pressing, interchanging, creativity and off-the-ball work ethic, and while Neto has the required ingredients in his game to thrive, it is his patchy injury record that makes him a risky potential acquisition.

That said, Postecoglou and Spurs must look out for other alternative targets on their list if they are planning to sign a quality winger this summer. There is no point taking a punt on a talented yet injury-prone player.
