Tottenham Hotspur are getting ready for the pre-season games
Tottenham Hotspur are all set to continue their magical spell under Ange Postecoglou, in the upcoming season. The Aussie tactician has changed the club’s regular norms with his talent and managerial skills. He has helped the North London club return to their successive track by leading the club from the front.
When Ange arrived at the N17, Spurs were in a pathetic stage; they finished eighth in the previous season, and the club’s all-time top scorer Harry Kane left the club to join German giants Bayern Munich. But Ange had trust in the club and the players and he made some crucial decisions in N17. He went for a new goalkeeper option for Spurs after several seasons and signed Italian custodian Guglielmo Vicario. All the Spurs fans didn’t accept the change at first, but later they were happy with Vicario’s performances.
The change also paved the way for club legend Hugo Lloris’s exit from the North London club. The Frenchman bid adieu to the club after a 12-year journey. Ange also named Son Hueng-min as the new Spurs captain last season, which also gave the player a huge boost, and Sonny finished the campaign as the highest goal scorer of the club with 17 goals. The Aussie tactician completed the season without a proper striker in the squad and he assigned the midfielders and wingers to score goals for the club. Amidst all the challenges, Spurs finished fifth in the Premier League, clinching the Europa League spot.
The manager has already confirmed that the club will go through a revamp process in the summer to prepare for the upcoming season and he has made some signings and offloaded some of the players from the club.
The manager needs to fill some more holes in the squad with new signings. From the two new signings of Archie Grey and Lucas Bergvall, it is clear that Ange has immense trust in youth and he may consider the academy players who shine in the pre-season matches for the main squad. The homegrown players will get more chances in the initial pre-season matches as some of the international players haven’t joined the club yet.
We will take a look at five academy players who could feature for Ange Postecoglou in the pre-season.
Dane Scarlett
Dane Scarlett is the most well-known of the Tottenham academy prospects. He is one of the best strikers from the Spurs academy. Despite a frustrating loan spell at Ipswich Town, where he has struggled for regular playing time, he has a bright future in the game. The 20-year-old striker wants to establish himself as a goal-poacher for his boyhood club in the pre-season games. As the number nine position in the squad is still vacant, Scarlett can be next Harry Kane for the North London club.
Jamie Donley
Jamie Donley is a highly-rated forward in the Spurs academy and many football pundits have rated the 18-year-old’s game highly. He has a genuine chance of being part of the Tottenham squad for the upcoming season. He would be a perfect option for Ange as he is searching for a young forward for Spurs. The England U19 player has scored 8 goals and provided 17 assists for the U21 Tottenham team last season and he would be a great false nine player for the Spurs.
Mikey Moore
The U17 England player had a dazzling debut season with the U18 team in the last campaign. He scored 16 goals and contributed nine assists in 16 appearances for the youth team across all competitions. The 16-year-old has already made his Premier League debut in last season under Ange and the manager would probably send him for a lower-league loan spell before signing for the main squad. He will be also a future asset for the North London club as the current left winger Son is entering his final stages of prime years and Mikey Moore can be a perfect replacement for him in the squad. Also, the pre-season helps the young talent to learn from experienced left-wingers in the squad like Son, Manor Solomon and Bryan Gil.
George Abbott
The 18-year-old is a versatile player in the academy. Primarily he is a defensive midfielder who also prefers to play as a right-back. The pre-season is a golden opportunity for George Abbott as the club needs to find a replacement in his position and Ange can consider him for the senior team if he wins to impress in the pre-season games. His attacking prowess is well documented as he contributed to 10 goals for the youth teams last season. The England U19 player can be a key player for Spurs in the pre-season as some of the players are absent from the squad. He can use the opportunity to prove that he is ready for the senior team.
Tyrese Hall
Tyrese Hall is a dynamic 18-year-old midfielder who has been catching the eye at youth level. The box-to-box player has excellent energy and an eye for a pass and could force his way into Ange’s plans with a strong pre-season showing. The English player has also been praised by many football pundits for his performance in the Spurs youth team. The young midfielder is also capable of scoring so the manager can involve Hall in Spurs’ attacking moves.
