Tottenham face tough call on 19-year-old talent touted as better than Bellingham

Ange Postecoglou has been blessed with ample young talents coming through the ranks at Hotspur Way, as the club boasts some of the most exciting young prospects in English football at the moment, and the Australian boss would be looking to take advantage of such opportunities in his roster.

The Lilywhites have done an excellent job of investing in young players who have the capacity to represent the badge and take on a legacy with their presence in the dressing room.

While it used to be a problem supporters have been vocal about for a while, it looks like the club has listed and has made considerable improvements in ensuring that bright stars come out of the academy at N17. Club insider John Wenham even stated once that he feels the youngster is better than Jobe Bellingham.

Jamie Donley is one of those talents likened to potentially massive success and the player has received considerable minutes under his belt in the recently concluded pre-season campaign. And John Wenham, owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose, believes that Donely has the potential to likely receive some senior minutes under his belt at N17 next season and has advised the player to stay put at the club until at least January before considering a loan move away from the club.

Ample of EFL League One and Championship clubs have expressed interest in landing the Spurs starlet on loan, per Tom Barclay of The Sun, with Chris Davies keen to bring the 19-year-old to Birmingham City.

However, per Wenham’s suggestion, the player should prioritize staying at the club and work to find some minutes under his belt wearing the Spurs badge in the first half of the upcoming campaign.

Spurs face Donley decision amid loan interest

Wenham, in an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, said:

“Originally I wanted Donley to go out on loan. However, I have changed my mind on that. I think he has played some of the most pre-season minutes, which is a massive vote of confidence from the coaching staff toward him. Therefore, I think he’d be better suited hanging around the first-team squad, at least until January. Then he can see where he stands and reassess. He has made so much progress and sometimes the better loans are available in January anyway. If he sticks around, I imagine he will play lots of first-team minutes.”

The player has seen ample opportunities come his way in the preseason, and he has been doing a lot of good things in the left-back position, which is different from his usual role. His versatility would be a thing of preference if he were to stay with the club next season.
