Tottenham Hotspur captain Son Heung-Min highlighted that a trophy is one thing, keeping him from becoming a legend at Spurs. The Lilywhites have a chance to end their trophy drought when they face Manchester United in the Europa League final.

While Ange Postecoglou and his club have endured a gruelling season with more downs than ups, a trophy remains possible. That important achievement cannot negate the complete disaster this season, but it is a massive way to salvage something tangible.

Tottenham are currently 17th in the Premier League table after suffering an enormous 20 losses so far in this campaign. Their Europa League final opponents, United, are also having a disastrous season, currently in 16th position in the Premier League.

However, Spurs cannot take the Red Devils for granted after they defeated Athletic Club convincingly in the Europa League semifinals. With stakes so high, Son has an immense opportunity to right the past wrongs when he narrowly missed a trophy.

When asked (via Football on TNT Sports/X) if Son still believes that he is a Tottenham legend unless he wins a trophy. He said:

“Yeah, yeah, this is my opinion, and everyone can have their opinion. This is the one thing that I always wanted to, in 10 years’ time, still don’t think that even if I scored many goals and contributed many things for this club, but I still don’t think that the pieces of the puzzle….just missing the pieces of the puzzle. Just make that happen, and then see after the game”

The South Korean international has regressed a lot this season as age is catching up to him rapidly. The 32-year-old has made 44 appearances in all competitions for Tottenham, scoring 11 goals and providing 12 assists this season.

Son remains a pivotal player despite his struggles and someone who can find another gear in big games. The potential Europa League win is not just a chance to end the drought, but also a way into the next season’s Champions League.

Furthermore, with bitter rival Arsenal failing to secure a single trophy this season, the achievement gives Spurs fans another reason to celebrate.
