Tottenham eyeing a summer move for LOSC Lille striker Jonathan David on a free transfer

Many Tottenham Hotspur attackers are facing an uncertain future at the club.

The Lilywhites have endured a tough campaign and their lack of squad depth have been exposed frequently due to injury issues. The gulf in first-team players and squad options are way too high, which is one of the many reasons why the Lilywhites are languishing 17th in the Premier League table.

Spurs are prepared to lose some of their key players in the summer. Richarlison has been linked with a return to Everton, while Timo Werner will be back to RB Leipzig after his loan deal expires next month. In addition, there is speculation surrounding the future of club captain Son Heung-min, whose powers have been on the wane since last term.

The lack of a quality back-up for club-record signing Dominic Solanke has hurt Tottenham, something the club bosses are seemingly planning to address this summer. According to French outlet L’Equipe, Tottenham are among several clubs in talks with representatives of LOSC Lille striker Jonathan David over a potential move.

Jonathan David has been a prolific goalscorer for LOSC Lille since arriving from Genk in 2020. He has proven himself in Ligue 1 and has also earned a decent amount of experience playing in Europe. Edging closer to the end of his contract, the Canadian international is presently plotting his next adventure amid links with Tottenham.

With plenty of clubs across Europe interested, the striker faces a dilemma over his next destination. Alongside Spurs, the likes of Aston Villa, Juventus and Napoli are also keen on David, the aforementioned report adds.

That said, Spurs should do everything possible to sign David on a potential free transfer from Lille. At 25, the North American is about to embrace the prime stages of his career, which could make him a great option to compete and cover for Solanke next season. He would thrive at N17 and provide a different dynamic than Solanke to the attack.

Easier said than done, the Lilywhites will have to pull out all the stops to lure David to North London. As Spurs have endured a catastrophic season and their entry to the Champions League hinges on next week’s Europe League final against Manchester United, the instability at the club amid Ange’s uncertain future could see the Lille star reject our advances.

The Brooklyn-born ace has plenty of clubs to choose from for his next destination, so until and unless Levy and Tottenham come up with some different in terms of project and salary package, it is hard to see the striker chose us over others.
