Ange Postecoglou urged to hand Tottenham ‘Mic drop’ moment if he prevails over Manchester United

Ange Postecoglou is under huge pressure to deliver the Europa League trophy for Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur have the golden opportunity to win their first major trophy since 2008 when they take on Manchester United in Wednesday’s UEFA Europa League final in Bilbao.

Questions remain over Ange Postecoglou’s future at N17, with chairman Daniel Levy already looking out for potential managerial replacements. The 59-year-old’s side have not performed as per the standards in the Premier League and suffered 21 defeats in 37 fixtures—a record that is enough to get any manager sacked. In contrast, Spurs have enjoyed a strong European campaign and reached the final.

Thus, this game at the San Mames Stadium could go a long way towards defining the future of Ange Postecoglou at the club. His famous words, “I always win things in second year”, has been doing the rounds of late, so one could imagine the pressure the Australian is under to back it on Wednesday evening.

Now, Anton Ferdinand has revealed what he would do if he were the Tottenham gaffer after winning the Europa League trophy. The former Premier League defender said he would resign immediately after lifting the coveted European trophy if he were Ange Postecoglou.

“If I’m Ange, I’m winning it and resigning. Mic drop,” said Anton Ferdinand on Rio Ferdinand Presents podcast.

“The way he’s been treated, the fans don’t take to him. He half goads the fans, they don’t like it.

“The fact that he said ‘I always win a trophy in my second season’…

“If he goes and does it, after the way he’s been treated by the fanbase, I’m going there and winning it, I’ve done what I said I’m gonna do, mic drop, see you later.”

Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou can salvage the season to some extent by winning the Europa League

Indeed, the criticism levelled at Ange has been way over the top at times this season. He has also been disrespected by certain sections of media, with the Australian angrily dismissing the suggestion of The Standard journalist he is a “clown” in the pre-match press conference on Tuesday night.

The 59-year-old, who was hugely successful during his time at Celtic, has to prove himself in England and nothing could better than winning the Europa League trophy. It would also give Daniel Levy a chance to perhaps think a couple of times more before making a change in the hotseat ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

A lot is riding for both clubs on this game, but Ange and Tottenham want it more and must show that on the Spanish soil on Wednesday evening.
