Tottenham Hotspur eyeing early move for rising Serie C sensation

Tottenham turn focus on signing Pisa SC’s young defender Francesco Coppola
Tottenham Hotspur are likely to resolve Ange Postecoglou’s future before they pursue any signings during the summer transfer window, amid growing fears the Australian could lose his job despite ending the club’s 17-year-old trophy drought.
Spurs beat Manchester United 1-0 in the Europa League final in Bilbao on Wednesday night and secured qualification for next season’s Champions League. A first-half Brennan Johnson turned out to be the difference between both sides, as Ange Postecoglou lived up to his word of winning trophies in his second year at clubs.
While Postecoglou’s future remains still up in the air, the Hotspur Way chiefs have certainly started planning for the forthcoming transfer window. The Lilywhites are now set for a big summer transfer window, having just secured the prize money for winning the Europa League and qualification for next season’s Champions League. They have banked £10.95m for winning the Europa League, plus an extra £100m windfall that will come from Champions League qualification.

Daniel Levy has many areas to strengthen in the squad. He needs to make a statement like he did last summer with Dominic Solanke, who arrived at N17 for a club-record fee from Bournemouth. However, it looks like Levy is expected to once again put emphasis on recruiting young talent with potential.
According to reputed Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla, Tottenham have been following Pisa SC youngster Francesco Coppola in recent months. They have set their sights on the defender, who has impressed on loan in Serie C.
Francesco Coppola joined Serie B club Pisa Sc’s academy in 2022, and they farmed him out on loan to Vis Pesaro, who are in Serie C. The Italy Under-20 international was a regular for Vis Pesaro, playing over 3,000 minutes from 35 games in all competitions. However, he couldn’t help Vis Pesaro achieve promotion to Serie B as they got eliminated during the playoffs earlier this week.
Coppola’s performances have brought him to the attention of Tottenham. The North Londoners have scouted the central defender on several occasions and appreciate his talent, Pedulla adds.

Spurs have had defensive problems throughout the season. Their central defenders have struggled with form and fitness, which prompted Ange to resort to makeshift solutions. So, signing a young central defender who can improve the depth of the squad and develop steadily is the need of the hour, and Coppola fits the bill perfectly.

The Italian could prove a smart investment for the future. Tottenham’s proven record of integrating young players into the first team, especially this season, leaves them in good stead to bring the Pisa SC-owned defender in at N17.
Coppola has a contract until 2026 (Transfermarkt), so Pisa SC could find it difficult to rebuff Spurs’ offer if they table one. As far as the player is concerned, the Spurs chiefs will have the opportunity to present the youngster and his camp our project under a potential new boss.
