With James Maddison being the only one in the squad that could create chances for his teammates, Daniel Levy has been forced to enter the transfer market for a new creative midfielder to compete with Englishman next season.

As per Fichajes, Spurs are interested in landing Xavi Simons of RB Leipzig. The Netherlands international is open for a move in the summer after joining the Bundesliga giants on a permanent deal last summer. The lack of European football next season for RB Leipzig would prove to be a key factor that could drive Simons away from the German club in the summer.

The aforementioned report also states that Leipzig will demand a hefty price for the 22-year-old. It is believed that the German club have set a €80m asking price for the Dutchman and would not accept a penny less in the summer. Simons still has two years left in his deal, so the German club are in no hurry to sell the talented player in the upcoming transfer window.

If Tottenham manage to land Xavi Simons in the summer, then it would certainly be a step in the right direction. The Lilywhites first need to sell players so that they can afford the 22-year-old. Signing Simons would mean that James Maddison would not be guaranteed a place in the starting eleven. The England international would then be expected to fight for his place and prove his worth week in week out.

Simons also tends to thrive in a high-pressing team and he is effective in regaining possession in the final third of the pitch.
