“Time to strike”- Club insider earmarks ex-Barcelona manager as new Tottenham coach

Tottenham are linked with a move for former Barcelona coach Xavi to kickstart new era

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has been under all sorts of pressure in recent months. The Australian has come under a lot of scrutiny for his team’s poor performances in domestic competitions. But it is fair to say that the ex-Celtic boss has proved his critics wrong as he managed to do the unthinkable. The Lilywhites have managed to end their long-standing trophy drought under the 59-year-old this season.

Big Ange will go down in the history books at N17 for all the right reasons now. Under him, Spurs have ended a 17-year wait for a major trophy as they won the Europa League on Wednesday night. It is fair to say that Ange’s men exceeded expectations and gave their all to deliver the result against Manchester United. Now, history will remember Ange and his players kindly for years to come.

The trophy parade that took place on Friday was a sight for sore eyes. Thousands of Spurs fans gathered on the streets to show their support and celebrate the Europa League success. And the biggest takeaway from the celebrations was the support Ange Postecoglou was shown during his victory speech. Daniel Levy has a tough job in his hands to decide Big Ange’s fate at N17 now.

Tottenham might lean towards appointing ex-Barcelona boss Xavi

Only in football do you get the highest of highs and the lowest of lows in such a short time. Ange Postecoglou was constantly jeered by his own fans earlier this month for the mediocre performances on the pitch. But now, the 59-year-old has suddenly become the best manager in Spurs’ recent history as he managed to end the long-standing trophy drought.

However, winning the Europa League might not be enough for Big Ange as his job is on the line at N17. Daniel Levy has already shortlisted potential managerial replacements and one of the them is former Barcelona coach Xavi. The Spaniard has been one of the favourites to replace Ange Postecoglou after he admitted that he would want to manage in the Premier League in the near future.

John Wenham also believes that Tottenham should test the waters and appoint Xavi to kickstart a new era at N17. Speaking to Tottenham News, Wenham said,

“Tottenham are going to be in the Champions League. I believe that opens the door to appoint someone like Xavi, whom I’ve mentioned many times before. The fact that we can offer a massive platform as a club, playing in the UEFA Super Cup, playing in the Champions League. If Tottenham are going to appoint a high-calibre manager, such as Xavi, this is the time to strike, while the iron is hot.”

John Wenham suggested that Tottenham should try hiring Xavi after the club ensured Champions League qualification for next season. The Lilywhite Rose owner also added that Spurs are playing in the UEFA Super Cup as well and have a massive platform, and that might lure the Spaniard to North London. Wenham then urged Tottenham to ‘strike while the iron is hot’ and appoint the former Barcelona coach quickly.

Ange Postecoglou is still left in the dark regarding his future at N17. It was reported earlier this week that the Europa league success would not stop Daniel Levy from sacking the Australian once the season ended. However, it is clear that the fans and the players still back Big Ange to turn the fortunes around at the club. Now, Levy has a massive task of getting the managerial decision right to build on the Europa League success.
