Tottenham among clubs interested in signing Brighton and Hove Albion left-back Pervis Estupinan

Sergio Reguilon’s disappointing Tottenham Hotspur career finally has come to an end. The club announced last month that the left-back will leave the club following the expiry of his contract on June 30.

Now with Reguilon set to embark on a new chapter, possibly in Ligue 1 with AS Monaco, Spurs have to look for his replacement in this transfer window. The Spaniard’s departure frees up room for a new left-back to come into the squad, as Daniel Levy puts plans in place ahead of the club’s return to Champions League football.

As Ben Davies has been counted as a back-up centre-back under Ange Postecoglou, Destiny Udogie currently remains the only natural left-back in the roster. Djed Spence can play in that position, as evidenced last season, but is a right-back by trade and will be expected to compete with Pedro Porro again next term.

This makes it essential for the North Londoners’ to invest in a new left-back, and the club have apparently started scouring the market. According to an exclusive report from CaughtOffside, Tottenham are embroiled in a battle for highly-rated Brighton and Hove Albion left-back Pervis Estupinan. Clubs such as Manchester United, Chelsea and AC Milan are all keeping tabs on him.

Pervis Estupinan has been a key player for Brighton ever since transferring from Villarreal in the summer of 2022. He has racked up over 100 appearances for the Seagulls, netting five goals and registering 14 assists in the process. The Ecuador international recently concluded another fine season in the Premier League, where he registered a goal and an assist apiece in 30 outings.

The 27-year-old’s consistent performances in a Brighton shirt have put several clubs on red alert. The aforementioned report adds that the Seagulls have placed a price tag in the region of €40–45 million on Estupinan. Tottenham and Chelsea are understood to be particularly ‘enthusiastic’ about the move, with the London duo attracted towards his valuable Premier League experience.

Udogie is Spurs’ undisputed first-choice left-back thanks to his consistent displays since arriving at N17 in 2023. However, with the Italian yet to fully prove his fitness after enduring back-to-back injury-hit campaigns in North London, Tottenham cannot fully rely on him and enter the 2025/26 season. Basically, they require a quality left-back who can compete and cover with Udogie, and Estupinan would be a great shout.

At 27, Estupinan is set to embark on the peak years of his career. He’d want to enjoy his best years playing in the Champions League, and the Lilywhites are in a position to offer him that. Plus, his top-flight experience means the South American should not have much qualms hitting the ground running, making him a low-risk acquisition for Tottenham.

In a summer where Levy must show his ambition and build a squad capable of juggling Premier League football and Champions League adventure, Spurs must not hesitate to meet Brighton’s demands for Estupinan.
