The key talking point holding up Thomas Frank’s move to Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham have been linked to Thomas Frank as their next manager
Tottenham are once again making headlines in England. After an inconsistent season that ended with the departure of Ange Postecoglou, even after winning the Europa League, the Spurs have stepped up their efforts to sign Thomas Frank, the current Brentford manager.
On Friday, 6 June, Tottenham officially sacked Postecoglou after a strange campaign. Despite winning the Europa League, poor results in the Premier League ended his tenure. Spurs have wasted no time, and they have already spoken to Thomas Frank, and the coach’s entourage has shown a willingness to take on the job. Journalist Natalie Sawyer, speaking on talkSPORT on 8 June, said that the coach has already expressed his desire to change teams. According to Sawyer, the deal is almost done, but there is one point of contention: which members of Frank’s staff could follow him to London? That negotiation has stalled progress.
To what extent is the coaching staff’s situation affecting the transfer? A great deal. Tottenham do not only want the coach, but also his trusted team, which has been key to Brentford’s stability. Frank knows that without his assistants, he loses part of his usual structure. Brentford, for their part, are demanding specific conditions for releasing more staff, which has complicated matters. This dispute has made the talks slow and tense.

The other obstacle is Brentford’s role as a club. Frank’s side are still planning signings, departures and renewals. Losing their manager at this point would complicate their roadmap. The club do not want to be left disarmed and without room for manoeuvre. Tottenham, meanwhile, are acting as if everything should be resolved quickly.
This raises the third question: Is it realistic to think that the change should have been made already? No. Spurs seem not to be measuring the impact of this move on their direct negotiating rival. They want an express transition without understanding that Brentford are protecting their project.

Another issue is who could accompany Frank in his move. Bryan Mbeumo is a clear possibility. He is a versatile attacker, knows the coach and would fit well into Tottenham’s attack. His ability to play on both wings and his Premier League level make him a natural choice if Spurs want to strengthen their offensive line. In addition, with players like Richarlison under observation, Mbeumo could offer something different. The signing would make sense both athletically and emotionally.
But there is another way of looking at this story. Perhaps Frank is thinking twice, not because of a lack of interest, but because he knows Tottenham‘s urgency. The club demand immediate results. Brentford, on the other hand, has offered him stability. The decision is not just contractual or financial, it is also emotional and strategic. Frank may want a change of scenery, but he must do so with full control of his team, otherwise, he will be starting halfway.
