Tottenham keen to retain star attacker; ready to reconsider for the right price

Tottenham Hotspur will part ways with Son Heung-min for the right price this summer
Tottenham experienced a season finale full of contrasts. On the one hand, fans celebrated a historic victory in the Europa League final against Manchester United, a title that had eluded them for decades. But the jubilation quickly faded. Just days after the triumph, the club announced the departure of Ange Postecoglou.
The performance in the Premier League weighed more heavily than the continental trophy. On 6 June, Spurs made it official, and the board cited a ‘performance review’ as the main reason. Now, with Thomas Frank as a strong candidate for the bench, important decisions lie ahead.
According to Football Insider, Tottenham are considering handing the reins to Thomas Frank, the current Brentford manager. The Dane has already made clear his desire to take Bryan Mbeumo with him. The Mirror reinforced this version by reporting that Frank spoke directly with the Spurs leadership, suggesting going after the Cameroonian winger and competing with United for his signing.
The Champions League offer, coupled with confidence in Frank, could tip the balance in Tottenham’s favour. But there is one direct consequence that looms large: if Mbeumo lands in north London, Heung-min Son could be packing his bags. Football Insider noted that although the club wants to keep the South Korean, they are not ruling out accepting a good offer if one comes along.

Son has been a symbol of Tottenham for years. He has played with dedication, scored decisive goals and worn the shirt with pride. But football does not thrive on nostalgia. Last season was one of the Korean’s most lacklustre, with subdued performances and little impact.
If Thomas Frank arrives, his style may not fit with a Son in physical decline. Mbeumo, on the other hand, is coming off a good season with the Bees, performs well both on and off the pitch, and is younger. For Frank, prioritising someone he already knows and who fits his vision makes more sense.

However, letting Son go is not a simple tactical adjustment. It means cutting ties with one of the club’s last great icons. And that could weigh heavily on a dressing room that is just beginning to rebuild after a failed spell with Postecoglou. Furthermore, selling Son after winning the Europa League sends a strange message to the fans: that not even a title guarantees continuity for the heroes of the recent past.
Is a project with Mbeumo worth more than one with Son? Probably yes, if the club want to turn the page and build with a new manager. But there is a delicate balance. Selling Son without securing a quality replacement could prove costly. Because Son’s goals, although less frequent now, are still worth points. And his image continues to sell shirts, inspire children and fill stadiums. Frank will have to think carefully, and Spurs too. Because a decision like this defines much more than a position on the pitch, as it defines a direction.
