Aston Villa star Jacob Ramsey might head for pastures new as Tottenham links emerge

Tottenham are aiming high now as they look to build on the Europa League success next season. With Daniel Levy coming out and stating that the club intends to win the Premier League and the Champions League in the coming years, the Lilywhites need to walk the talk and bring in some reinforcements to get started. The fans will hope that this is not just another false promise and Levy manages to back Thomas Frank in the summer.

There is a clear need to address the problems in the frontline after the North London club endured a disastrous Premier League season. The Spurs players struggled for consistency and the lack of squad depth meant that the Lilywhites lost games by the smallest of margins. This was also one of the main reasons why Ange Postecoglou lost his job at N17 as the club finished just a place above the relegation zone in the Premier League.

Now, Daniel Levy has a massive task of revamping the squad and bringing in new players in the summer. For that, Spurs need to cash-in on underperforming players to generate funds for new signings. The Lilywhites also need to adopt the ‘sell-to-buy’ policy after enduring a tough domestic campaign.

Tottenham want to sign Aston Villa star Jacon Ramsey in the summer

Tottenham need to make a statement signing in the summer to get the fans excited for next season. The Lilywhites are already playing catch-up in the transfer market, so fans will hope that Daniel Levy acts fast and lands a quality player quickly before pre-season starts. With Heung-Min Son steadily declining and heading towards a potential exit, Spurs are looking to bring in a quality replacement in the coming weeks.

As per the Guardian, Spurs are interested in signing Jacob Ramsey from Aston Villa. The Lilywhites have been long-term admirers of the versatile attacker and want to add him to their ranks for next season under Thomas Frank. However, Villa have slammed a price tag of £40m for the 24-year-old’s services and will not accept a penny less. The North London club also faces competition from West Ham for his services.

The aforementioned report also states that Aston Villa are looking to sell the ‘homegrown’ player before 30th June as the Villains look to avoid falling under the trap of the Premier League Profit and Sustainability rules. Selling Jacob Ramsey for £40m will count as pure-profit for the club as the player has come through the ranks at Villa Park. It is also believed that Spurs are willing to wait until the PSR deadline to force Aston Villa to lower the asking price for the prolific attacker.

Signing Jacob Ramsey would prove to be a steal if Tottenham can lower the asking price in the coming weeks. He would instantly provide a different dynamic to the attack and his versatility to play on the left and the right flank would prove to be useful for Thomas Frank. His explosive pace and good dribbling skills will also help the team during counter-attacks.

More Tottenham Hotspur News:

Ramsey may not be as prolific in front of goal as the other Spurs attackers, but his work-rate and his desire to win the ball back will be key if Thomas Frank’s side want to win the ball in the final third of the pitch. The 24-year-old also has a good passing range and his decision-making skills will help him fit in well at N17 under the Danish tactician.
