“Need to sign him”- Tottenham urged to sign ‘top-class’ Crystal Palace star this summer to fulfill Daniel Levy ambitions

Tottenham must try signing Crystal Palace star Adam Wharton in the summer

A massive revamp is needed at Tottenham in the summer to kickstart a new era under Thomas Frank. The Danish tactician’s setup is completely different to what the players were used to under Ange Postecoglou. Frank’s system is more pragmatic, with slow buildup by retaining possession. The over-reliance on counter-attacks is not present, and the central midfielders are key for creating chances.

It is very crucial that the right profiles are signed in the summer so that Thomas frank can setup his team quickly before the start of next season. The Lilywhites do not have ball-carriers in their squad that can carry the ball to the final third of the pitch and link-up play with the strikers.

The only midfielder capable of developing his game well to blend into Thomas frank’s setup is Lucas Bergvall. The Sweden international was one of the standout players for Spurs last season, and his ability to break the press by dribbling past opposition players was key in creating chances from deep. However, other players in the squad thrive without the ball. So, Daniel Levy must bring in a statement signing that could partner up with Bergvall in the heart of the midfield.

Tottenham should ‘test the waters’ for Crystal Palace star Adam Wharton

Tottenham need to make a statement signing in the summer if they want to get the fans hyped up for next season. With Yves Bissouma not suited for Thomas Frank’s system and heading for a potential exit, Daniel Levy must pull out all stops and bring in a holding midfielder that could create chances from deep and retain possession.

There are not many options in the transfer market that fit into that bracket. One of the standout players that could make a massive difference to the Spurs setup is Crystal Palace star Adam Wharton. It is clear to see he will be a massive upgrade on what Thomas Frank has right now. Even Lilywhites Rose owner John Wenham has urged the club to sign the Englishman. Speaking to Tottenham News, Wenham said,

“Tottenham need to sign a top-class holding midfielder this summer. That needs to be a priority. Wharton is an option in that position. He would be a great signing. Tottenham will need to stump up the cash, as I’m sure it would take big money. However, if Levy is talking about wanting to win the Premier League and Champions League, these are the players he needs to go out and sign to give Tottenham a chance of doing that.”

John Wenham believes that Tottenham need a world-class holding midfielder in the summer that could go straight into the starting eleven under Thomas Frank. The Lilywhite Rose owner has urged the club to sign Adam Wharton in the summer to fit in that role. However, Wenham acknowledges that Spurs would have to pay a premium to sign him, but believes that the club would need to make a signing like this if they want to win the big trophies.

It was reported earlier that an ‘astronomical fee’ would be needed to convince the Eagles to sell Adam Wharton in the summer. Palace have no intentions of selling the 21-year-old, and view him as a key part of Oliver Glasner’s setup. If Spurs do manage to sign him in the summer, then it would instantly elevate the quality of the midfield.

The England international thrives in the number six position, and can also linkup play with the midfielders and the attackers. His passing range is second to none, and Wharton is known for his great positional awareness. The 21-year-old is matured beyond his years, and often tends to get into good positions to receive the ball.
